What Is Prosthodontics?

Prosthodontic Dentistry in La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Bay Ho, and Clairemont San Diego

Prosthodontics, one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA), is a branch of dentistry that focuses on treatment using appliances that replace missing teeth and sometimes other structures of the mouth or parts of the face. Our Prosthodontic dentist Dr. Jay helps restore the natural function of your mouth.

Patients who have lost their teeth or whose teeth have become damaged can greatly benefit from the care of a prosthodontist. We want all of our patients in San Diego to know that Prosthodontists can sometimes be used to reverse congenital defects and the long-term effects of oral neglect and trauma.

Prosthodontic dentists are capable of performing a wide variety of complex procedures, Dr. Jay provides the following prosthodontic services at his San Diego office:

  • Dental Bridges
  • Partial dentures (complete and removable)
  • One Visit Crowns (CEREC)
  • Implant Dentistry
  • Reconstruction following oral cancer surgery
  • Full Mouth Restoration
  • Correcting snoring or sleep disorders such as sleep apnea
  • Jaw and jaw joint problems
  • Treating traumatic injuries to the mouth

After completing dental school, a prosthodontist typically undergoes three additional years of advanced training and education in a prosthodontic education program accredited by the American Dental Association.
